— TOURISM CASE STUDY
California Wine Tours
A stronger SEO foundation and expanded search visibility for the largest wine tour company in Napa and Sonoma Valley.
How California Wine Tours Rebuilt Organic Search Visibility Ahead of the 2025 Season
California Wine Tours needed more than routine SEO maintenance. Rankings for its highest-volume Napa Wine Tour keywords had been declining since mid-2024, and the 2025 booking season, with reservations closing in September, was approaching fast. NextGen Destination Marketing built a pillar-cluster content strategy, addressed the technical issues behind the decline, and added a Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and AI Visibility program to strengthen the brand’s position across both traditional search and AI-driven discovery.
The Challenge
As the largest tour operator in Napa and Sonoma Valley, offering wine tours and transportation services, California Wine Tours had built strong regional recognition. But its website had fallen behind. Outdated content and previously published AI-generated material had contributed to a significant ranking decline for high-volume Napa Wine Tour keywords starting in mid-2024. With 2025 season bookings closing in September, the client needed measurable SEO improvements on a compressed timeline, along with a content foundation ready to carry into a new website launch.
Our Approach
Pillar-Cluster Content Strategy
We built the content strategy around two pillars, Napa Wine Tours and Sonoma Wine Tours, and audited the existing site to determine what to delete, update, or merge. Keyword research targeted high-volume terms aligned to each pillar, and the team developed and optimized two URLs per month to strengthen on-page content and internal link structure.
Technical SEO and Conversion Tracking
We addressed the technical issues flagged in Google Search Console and implemented conversion tracking through Google Tag Manager, giving the client an accurate view of engagement and bookings.
New Website Launch and Paid Search
The new website launched in September 2025, and a Google Ads campaign began mid-September to add incremental traffic during peak booking season.
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and AI Visibility
Search now extends beyond traditional rankings. Over a 30-day period, the team ran 29 prompts focused on brand visibility, competitor and category discovery, and regional tour terms, building content structures designed to strengthen how California Wine Tours appears across AI-driven search experiences alongside its traditional keyword rankings.
